If you live in Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford it is great to have your neighbouring borough of Waltham Forest selected as London Borough of culture 2019. It is the first ever London Borough of Culture awarded from the Mayor of London. The idea is that events and activities over the year will ensure arts and culture is placed at the heart of our communities.
This year, the local to Woodford, Chigwell and Loughton, London borough of Culture will be exploring the themes of Radicals, Makers and Fellowship. They will be doing this in a collaboration with local residents, artists and creatives producing a once in a lifetime celebration of the place we call home. Events will highlight the character, diversity and cultures of the borough, the things we have in common and the things that make us different, in a year-long celebration of the real cultures of London by the people who live here.
Coming soon is the May Day Fayre on Saturday 4th May 2019 on Chingford Plain made with the community in association with And Now: and Bicycle Ballet. The event will take place from 4 pm until dusk, it’s a free event and you can just turn up.
The organisers “say let’s all come together as dusk falls on Chingford Plain, banish the shadows and join us to bring alight our hopes and burn our fears through song, fire, and pageantry. The idea is to celebrate together using song, feasting, and dance to mark the turning of the seasons in a very special place.”
They have been asking people to help build the biggest May Day bonfire yet seen on the Plain, built with the hopes you wish to kindle for the new spring year and burn the fears you wish to banish. As you help or get involved you can unwind and take a moment to remove yourself from the hurly-burly, get away from the madding crowd and back to Natures Playground in the wonderful Epping Forest.
