Mothering Sunday is traditionally a day off for mums. Don’t forget to buy a card and maybe some flowers and help with the house a bit more. Mother’s Day falls on 31st March this year and if you want to get something more for your mum but can’t think of a thing to give her maybe look at buying her a skill or experience.
If your mum is already a master baker this may not work but if not and she always says she wants to make more in her Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford kitchen but lacks the skills the Mayfield Farm Bakery & School might be worth a look.
Mayfield Farm Bakery & School just a bit north of Chigwell, Loughton and Woodford were established in 2010. Nick has been a baker all his life having worked for his family business for years and opening his own bakeries with one in Epping. This bakery was opened in a farm yard setting with the aim of being very different from a typical High Street Bakery.
One of the courses on offer is The Skills and Techniques Baking Course. It is suited to Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford home bakers who have either no or limited experience. Nick will teach you how to make a really good white dough, learning the skills to knead and prove effectively.
You will make a great dough by hand, from scratch. Half the dough will be used to make traditional shapes such as bloomers, cobs, cottage loaves and plaits. The second half will be used to make a speciality bread, once you can make a really good dough there are plenty of different breads you can make. As part of the day your mum can enjoy lunch or supper in the coffee shop and take home all the bread she’s made, usually 4 or 5 loaves.
