Making it to the ballet this season?

Living in Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford means it is really easy to take advantage of all the spectacular cultural treats on offer in London. Over the Christmas/New Year season it can be traditional to go to the ballet but there are more ways than one for enjoying this treat closer to home.

If you haven’t made it into town you could think about booking for Sunday 21st January when there will be a live satellite screening of Romeo and Juliet danced by the famous Bolshoi Ballet Live in Russia but beamed straight to the Odeon at South Woodford just 2.8 miles from Chigwell at 60/64 High Road, South Woodford, London, E18 2QL or to Stratford East Picturehouse E15 just 6 miles from home on the Salway Road, London, E15 1BX.

Alexei Ratmansky, former artistic director of the Bolshoi Ballet is staging the company’s premiere of this classic ballet, set to Prokofiev’s romantic and cinematic score. Romeo and Juliet the ballet was written by Sergei Prokofiev based on Shakespeare's tragic love story. Prokofiev composed the music in 1935 or 1936 for the Kirov Ballet. And the incredible ballet score has inspired many great choreographers to try their hand at Shakespeare's story.

The stories are very similar with the feuding between the Capulets and the Montagues setting the background of this dramatic love story. With such a familiar story it is a perfect way to find out more about ballet and see if you really enjoy it enough to book for Covent Garden!
