London Panto’s galore

There is no escaping the Panto season and if you are lucky enough to live in Chingford Woodford or Loughton you have London on your doorstep to provide the very best of pantos.  Indeed there are so many quality pantos it’s hard to decide which to book but which one to choose? Time Out offer a handy guide to choosing the one that will suit your family best.

For the central London celebrity event there is ‘Dick Whittington,’ at London Palladium, the home of British variety. They only returned to panto last year and it was a rip-roaring success, powered by some huge household names. This year they are doing it again, with Julian Clary front and centre sure to make plenty of Dick jokes until Jan 14 2018.

Relatively close to home there is ‘Rapunzel’, at Theatre Royal Stratford East it may be a little overshadowed by Hackney Empire’s, because the writing team changes from year to year. But Trish Cooke and Robert Hyman are this years writing team, and they’ve come up with ‘Rapunzel’. You can expect cracking original songs and one of the best panto villain around this year in Michael Bertenshaw, until Jan 13 2018

There is always a classic panto on at Hackney Empire this year it is ‘Cinderella’. Under the steady eye of artistic director Susie McKenna, it will have the best sets, the best singers, the most diverse cast, the liveliest crowd, the funniest jokes, and it’s totally celeb-free if that’s what you prefer. But is only on until Dec 31st. Time Out can always help you with a few other options if none of these take your fancy.
