There are lots of opportunities to horse ride in and around Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford. There are some interesting rides through the lovely historic Epping Forest of course but if you are looking for some summer activities with horses for you children this summer Aldborough Hall Equestrian Centre, Ilford, under 3 miles from Chigwell might be of interest.
They have indoor and outdoor riding opportunities for all ages from - Young Children (4-8), Older Children (9-12) and Teenagers (13-18). They are BHS approved and Aldborough Hall Equestrian Centre day they can offer “a variety of well-mannered mounts for lessons, which are available from 5 years upwards”.
Children's Lessons are held on Saturdays and Sundays and they say they offer “friendly and supportive lessons which encourage confidence and independence while teaching the basic principles of horsemanship. It's a great way to get them off on the right hoof, so to speak, and will give them good grounding should you wish to go hacking with them elsewhere.”
The Centre not far from Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford also has an Indoor Riding School that is an impressive 60 x 24 metres, an Outdoor Arena measuring 100 x 50 metres, an Outdoor Manege of 40 x 20 Metres, Cross Country Fences and Show Jumps too. So if the kids are occupied and you are up for some riding yourself there's loads of scope for more experienced riders to find a challenge and a new experience there.
During the school holidays, Aldborough Hall has its own Pony Club which runs events during the school holidays and offers kids the chance to really get to know their pony.
Horse riding near Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford is a real delight, something you can enjoy all year round in a genuinely rural setting and still work in London.
