Coping with the summer holidays in Chigwell, Loughton or Woodfords can be simple with so much varied activity on your doorstep. If you have small people why not plan a Miniature Steam & Electric Train Ride this August. Just a short hop from Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford Miniature Steam & Electric Train Rides will be running in Chingford.
Through August, during the school summer holidays rides will be available on Wednesday afternoons; Wednesday 14th August, Wednesday 21st August, Monday 26th August, Wednesday 28th August from 2 pm - 4 pm and every Sunday & Bank Holiday Monday afternoon from 2 pm to 5:30 pm. Some say it is one of London's best-kept secrets. There are two miniature train tracks in Ridgeway Park, (Near the Green Man pub near the top of Chingford Mount). There is a 1000 foot 5 raised level track (£1) & a 3000 foot 7¼ ground level track (£1.50) and there is Free parking in the park and on local roads.
The Chingford & District Model Engineering Club run the tracks and the Club is 73 years old. Their members come from all walks of life and do not necessarily have an engineering background. The club seeks to promote all forms of model engineering and model making, from Boats, Planes, Trains & Static Models so it is for all kinds of folk interested in making and doing. Membership is open to either gender and starts at 10 for Apprentices, 14 for Juniors and 18 years for full membership. But you don’t have to become a member to enjoy a day out from Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford this summer.
