The Royal Epping Forest Golf Club

The Royal Epping Forest Golf Club is holding an exhibition to celebrate 130 years of golf playing at the course. The City of London Corporation is holding a series of events to celebrate this fact. One such event is an Exhibition bringing together archive material from 130 years of golf on this historic course. It runs from the 16th June to 15th July and is open every Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm at The View, Rangers Road, Chingford, E4 7QH.

If you are a Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford golf enthusiast you may well be interested in the exhibition about this historic golf club not far from home. This exhibition is a reason to visit and as well as being open for public play, Chingford Golf Course is home to the Royal Epping Forest Golf Club, Chingford Golf Club and Chingford Ladies Golf Club. Golf has been played on Chingford Golf Course since the 1880's. So you can take in the exhibition and a round of golf.

The Club’s course rises almost 100 feet from Chingford Plain dipping in and out of Epping Forest. The golf course at 6,281 yards, while not the longest on offer in Essex, it represents a challenge to golfers of any standard. To protect the forests natural appearance a local Epping Forest bye-law restricts bunkers from being on view so there are only a handful of bunkers, located in the midst of the forest but it is still a great setting. ‚Äč

The Royal Epping Forest Golf Club was the first golf club to be established in Essex and is the only one to bear the Royal title. The title comes from its close proximity to the historic hunting grounds of King Henry VIII and Elizabeth I. If you are a golf enthusiast living in Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford taking in a round on this course puts you in good company.
