Rocking Essex Saturday 7th September

Essex will be rocking at Let’s Rock Essex taking place at the magnificent Hainault Forest Country Park on Saturday 7th September 2019. If you and your family are heading to Lets rock Essex from Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford you will be treated to a fabulous line-up of artists bringing you the very best of the 80s. It’s an action-packed day of general 80s madness with plenty to do for everyone in the family!

To help make it family-friendly re-entry to the Festival for parents/guardians accompanying children under the age of 16 is permitted. Single-use re-entry wristbands will be issued on-site at the Festival to parents/guardians who have a Child Ticket and this pass allows for re-entry to the festival with or without your child. Single-use re-entry wristbands will also be available for disabled guests.

The festival takes place in Hainault Forest including Hainault Forest Country Park which is also a site of special scientific interest. Hainault Forest like Epping Forest is one of the remaining sections of the former forest of Essex. Epping Forest was luckier than Hainault and preserved for the enjoyment of the locals including those living in Chigwell, Loughton and Woodford.

The Hainault forest land was condemned as waste in 1851, it was disforested, the deer were removed, and 92% of the old forest was cut down. The land became marginal agricultural land and subsequently, a significant proportion has been built on. But the destruction was described as an outrage by Oliver Rackman at the destruction of Hainault led to the modern conservation movement. A movement that created conservation groups which successfully opposed the same fate befalling Epping Forest.

Public pressure to retain some remnant of Hainault Forest led to a total of 804 acres (3.3 km2) of land being bought for public use on 21 July 1906. It included 253 acres (1.0 km²) of woodland and rough pasture. Now a protected area of open space parklands with numerous public footpaths and a large lake, perfect for a day out from Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford to help rock Essex.
