Making a move this year

Nothing is more exciting or stressful than moving home. But if you are planning on moving to Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford this year the excitement will almost certainly outweigh the stress, especially if you remember some handy moving tips.

So, it's just before you complete and move in, you have been frantically packing your moving boxes, and sorting final bills and booking moving vans. But then you realise you want to know more about the place you are moving into. Have you asked the sellers all the questions you want to ask to make your life easy when you step into your new Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford home?

The kind of questions it can be good to ask the previous owner include: where's the main stopcock (to shut off the water if you have an emergency or want to make any changes)? Where are the gas and electricity meters? Do any surfaces need special cleaning products, eg wooden or stone floors? Do you have any old tins of paint in the same colour as the walls and where are they? Do you have any instruction manuals or warranties on white goods and electrical items that are staying in the property and where are they? Where did the kitchen and bathroom tiles come from have you got any spares?  Where is the thermostat for the boiler? Which company supplies the energy, broadband and home phone?

Then what about all that local knowledge, what day are the bins collected? Can you recycle and what can be recycled? It can be a lot to remember, many vendors are very happy to provide an answer to most of the above, you could always print out a list of questions and give it to your estate agent to ask them to jot down the answers for you so you don’t forget.
