Connaught Water - things to do

Connaught Water is one of the most popular lakes to walk around in Epping Forest, largely because of the range of wildlife and its proximity to Chigwell, Loughton and Woodford.

Connaught Water is always open, it never closes and it a fantastic place to walk alone or with family and friends. Why not try the Willow Trail which is marked out and is mostly an easy walking over a range of surfaced tracks and grassland. There is only one short steep slope up to the lake from Chingford Plain. For the average walker, it will take about an hour to walk the distance of 2.5 miles or 4 km.

Walking really is one of the easiest ways to improve or maintain your overall health. By walking just 30 minutes every day you can increase cardiovascular fitness, strengthen bones, reduce excess body fat, and boost muscle power and endurance. By doing this you will also be reducing your risk of developing conditions such as heart disease, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis and some cancers.

One of the best things about walking is that unlike some other forms of exercise, it is free and doesn’t require any special equipment or training. It can also easily be done outside bringing all the other health benefits of some fresh air in your lungs and the sun on your face.

Walking is low impact, requires minimal equipment, can be done at any time of day and can be performed at your own pace. You can get out and walk without worrying about the risks associated with some more vigorous forms of exercise. Walking is also a great form of physical activity for people who are overweight, elderly, or who haven’t exercised in a long time.

Postcodes for car parks near Connaught Water are IG9 5UB . The View, Chingford Plain and Connaught Water car parks all have disabled bays and asphalt surfaces.
