All creatures great and small in Chigwell

You may well have heard of the New Yorkers lining up outside the cathedral of St John the Divine in Morningside Heights for a special event but did you know there was a similar event in Chigwell? On Sunday 13th October All Saints Church Romford Road Chigwell Essex IG7 4QD will open its doors from 3.00 - 4.00 pm to a family-friendly service to share God’s blessing with any local Chigwell, Loughton or Woodford animals and pets.

In New York each year the cathedral hosts a special celebration in honour of the Feast of Saint Francis of Assisi held on the first Sunday of October. It’s an event to honour St. Francis, the patron saint of animals, meaning that the two-legged guests aren’t the only ones welcome in the cathedral the public are invited to bring their beloved, (well-behaved) pets as well.

The same is true at Chigwell’s All Saints Church on Sunday 13th October 2019. It’s a chance to bring your animals and pets- of any type - to a service of blessing giving thanks to God for all the animals and creatures of the earth. Everyone is welcome with their animals but attendees are asked to keep them under control and not to let them endanger other animals and pets.

All Saints Church Romford Road Chigwell Essex IG7 4QD is in the parish of Chigwell Row that appeared on maps as early as 1645 part of the Ancient Parish of Chigwell. The name, which means ‘King’s Well’, stems from a once-famous well that was near to High View on Lambourne Road. It is always interesting to look at the history of churches but we mustn’t just look backwards. Church buildings are living places, which are to serve the worshipping congregations and community of today including your beloved Chigwell, Loughton and Woodford animals and pets.
